There are some very cool things to see outside of biking distance of the city.  If you have a car, or can rent one, there are some pretty awesome road trips.

Note: if you drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and do not have a FastTrak responder, you can pay online before crossing or within 48 hours after you cross the bridge online at the FasTrak® website.  Note: If you are in a rental car and opt to be billed, your rent car agency will charge an additional “convenience fee” to process the payment.  Depending on the length of your rental, this fee can far exceed the cost of crossing the bridge.

North – Short Loop – Muir Woods/Stinson Beach/Bolinas/Point Reyes

North – Wine Country Options – Sonoma & Napa Valley

South – Monterrey, Carmel by the Sea and a bit of Big Sur

East – Locke (last rural Chinese town in USA) the △ and Sacramento.
